Seasonal closure of Purnululu National Park
The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) wishes to advise that further to previous notifications about the wildfires in Purnululu National Park (The Bungle Bungles), due to significant damage to park infrastructure and visitor facilities and ongoing fires, it has been decided that the park will remain closed for the rest of 2009.
While every effort will be made to reopen the park normally on 1 April 2010, this will be subject to an assessment of the conditions in the park after the "Wet Season" and it is possible that the park, or sections of the park may need to remain closed until any necessary repairs and safety inspections are completed.
DEC will further broadcast information prior to next season as soon as information is available in respect to park operations. Visitors and tour operators should check with the DEC Kununurra office on (08) 9168 4200 when planning trips early in the 2010 season.
